Edwin Jeans and Denim – Japan’s Finest Now Taking Over The UK

Edwin jeans are possibly one of the hottest names on fashionable men’s lips at the moment. With their premium denim spreading around the UK faster than it ever has before Edwin jeans are slowly becoming one of the must have denim brands, with 2012 expected to be their year. With so much effort placed into the production of each pair of jeans you can see why each pair fits perfectly and by far offers more comfort than its closest rivals. If you’ve already watched the video at the top of the article then you’ll already know exactly what we mean when we say time, effort and care are placed into the production of Edwin jeans, be it one of the more basic ED 39 styles with a common wash or any style right through to their premium Japanese denim selvedge jeans that retail for around the £300-400 mark for one pair. Already huge in Japan and the USA where they can count Brad Pitt as one of their top celebrity fans Edwin are quickly becoming one of the brands of the moment, offering a wide range of jeans and a superb clothing range to feature alongside it. The emphasis is obviously placed on their denim and jeans, however the clothing seems to have this knack of being incredibly on trend with a selection of knits for the winter and graphical t shirts for the summer but it has been done the Edwin way, so quality cotton and wool have been sourced for the production and the graphics fit with the branding and image that Mr Tsunemi first established back in the sixties.

Summer 2012 may not be big for denim sales due to the heat in the UK, yet Edwin will combat this with a selection of chinos and trousers that will appear a little out of the ordinary offering khaki green and navy blue chinos and denim trousers rather than the obvious beige that has been adopted by the young population in the UK in recent years. Their jeans sales will be aided by their use of weighted denim, offering around and 8-10oz denim opposed to the 12-14oz that has been seein during the winter months. So if a new pair of denim jeans or a slightly different styles of chinos feature on your shopping list this summer then have a good look at the brand new spring summer 2012 Edwin collection as these are by far the jeans to be having this season.

Dockers – A Relation Of A Top American Denim Brand, But Who?

Dockers Chinos Logo and Slogan Wear the Pants

Dockers are one of the most up and coming ‘legs’ brands for 2012, and its hardly surprising given the impact that chinos have had on the fashion world in the past couple of years. The who beige or khaki chinos with espadrilles, boots or hi tops has really taken off among the younger lads, while the older guys have experimented with plimsolls, polo shirts and shirts just to keep it that little smarter and casual opposed to the very young pop image that bands such as One Direction have seriously adopted. Dockers is a brand that will sit between the two groups offering a bit of both, in plain language a basic pair of beige or khaki chinos for a reasonable amount, which this season is rumoured to be around the £50-£60 mark. Dockers will continue to thrive whilst the chino craze continues to grow and the variety of websites now selling Dockers for spring summer 2012 is amazing, showing that a niche brand can indeed be spread across a variety of commerical and premium websites.

However everything isn’t as it seems with Dockers as they’re actually much bigger than anyone could truely imagine – they’re a sub brand of a major American denim maker, some may even say the very first denim maker! Founded in San Francisco in the mid eighties Dockers is the casual ‘khaki garment’ from Levi Strauss & Co or more informally Levis. Having such a large backer has seen Dockers thrive over the years and even cope with the downturn in Chinos as a fashion when they became the choice of old men and matched with a suit blazer and shoes. This style has been taken in by the world of fashion however you’ll now see a tailored blazer and brogues mixed with the chinos, or as previously mentioned Nike or Adidas Hi Tops.

If you’re fancying a top pair of chinos this summer and aren’t quite sure of where to shop then Dockers is by far one of the leading brands that you want to be looking for alongside other top brands such as Dr Denim and the more commercial G Star, Levis, Denham and Edwin. Enjoy wearing chinos this summer, and matching them with your chosen fashion trend.

Dr Denim Chinos, Jeans and Clothing Autumn Winter 2011 Lookbook Clarinet

Everywhere I look at the moment the Swedish brand Dr Denim seems to be popping up. Despite being officially titled Dr Denim Jeansmakers I haven’t seen too many denim options this season, while the chinos have been popping up left, right and centre. Priced at just £60 these affordable chinos are spot on for the winter, and will suit most casual styles with boots, shoes, trainers, espadrilles and plimsolls all matching with the trousers in some form. Whether it be tucked in, rolled up or just worn as they were designed the Dr Denim chinos will look right on trend for winter 2011. Their clothing is also beginning to grab a lot of interest, with thick Swedish inspired and designed knitwear appearing alongside the jeans and chinos as well as a couple of designs from their winter coats and jackets, with a distinct military theme inspiring their double breasted, button front coats.

Established in Sweden in 2003 Dr Denim are working tirelessly to grow their brand in Europe and the UK, with some of the best retailers around now showcasing their superb jeans, chinos and clothing ranges. They’re edgy, different, and if their advertising campaign is anything to go by they also enjoy pushing the boundaries, and have fun doing it. Their autumn winter look book is full of chino wearing men polishing their trumpet or holding their clarinet. Yes we’re taking double entendres so make of the images what you will, but the fact of the matter is that the three Swedish brothers behind the brand have an eye for detail, attention to fit and comfort and enjoy themselves while bringing some superb on trend fashion to the world of mens designer clothing and jeans.

Humor Jeans – Kings of Drop Crotch

Filed Under (Bestselling Designer Jeans, Mens Designer Chinos) by DenimGeek on 08-11-2011

Tagged Under : , , ,

Scandinavian clothing makers, well Danish to be precise, Humor are currently top of the drop crotch jeans and chinos stakes among the younger fashion audience. The harem style has been a signature look for the brand throughout its short existence and has been adopted by the younger generation alongside the tapered look and cuff bottom style. Humor’s drop crotch design sees jeans fit around the waist, but drop fairly low resulting in lower back pockets and a very distinct style. Humor also have another signature design feature, in that they never quite cover the button fly, leaving four or five white buttons on show, just giving people that little nod towards their iconic style and design.

Humor also have a great split between chinos and jeans, offering a few colours in the cotton chinos, and some really out there ideas with their denims. Other than the regular washed denim or distressed looks Humor offer a coated denim which is a little more pricey than the others, but after times gives the jeans an amazing look and feel, and they’re priced much lower than a pair of G Star Raw denim jeans or Denham virgin denim jeans. There are also a few diagonal zip flys, crotch coverings and elasticated cuffs that really catch the eye in terms of difference and in some cases uniqueness. With Humor offering a colourful range of clothing they try to match this with blue, beige, black, grey, yellow and brown to offer a slight bit of colour, but not go too crazy, as their t shirts, shirts and hooded jumpers follow this trend, with sunglasses required to see some designs.

Humor are great quality, on trend and popular, the only major problem I see is that all young lads aren’t stick thin, and while starting at a 28″ waist grabs the lads young there is a struggle past 36″ waist for some jeans or chinos. Price wise they’re super competative and if you’re looking for a new pair of on trend jeans then this is the brand for you.

Levis Jeans and Music Advert

For autumn winter 2011 the top quality Levis jeans are looking amazing. Between the Red Tab collection and the Vintage range there are some amazing designs, washes and fits that look absolutely superb. As in true Levis style there is something for everyone from the youthful super slouch DNA jeans right through to the classic Levis 501 straight leg jeans and this seasons favourite among the trend setters the corduroy trousers, or cords. Levis is a brand steeped in great tradition and heritage and is arguably its founder Levi Strauss was the first man to produce what is now considered the modern day style of jeans. This history and heritage has helped them to dominate the world of denim and years for well over one hundred years now, and their experience is invaluable when you consider that they have pretty much ‘been there and done that’ with every possible design, wash and fit of jeans.

This season is going to be a big one for Levis as there is a massive selection of jeans, chinos and cords available with each one fitting the current designer menswear and denims trend perfectly. You can pick up a stunning pair of straight leg jeans that can be rolled up, or worn down, a pair of tapered Levis chinos to be worn with rigger or chukka boots or a pair of cords that can be matched with smarter brogues, shoes or boots – whatever takes your fancy. Denim is where Levis really has it wrapped up though with basics starting at £84 and going through the different washes and styles through to the Vintage collection that starts at around the £170/£180 mark and can go right through to £300 a pair. The Levis Vintage range is what it says it is its archive pieces from their entire existence, using old techniques and methods to create certain washes or looks and commands the price tag as its that something a little bit different that you won’t always find in other brands or in the usual Levis jeanswear range. You’ll find braces for the jeans, dropped crotches, skinny and slim fitting jeans and the classic straight legs or loose fits this season, so if you’re looking for a new pair of jeans why not dive into the massive Levis collection and snap up a couple of pairs for the winter. Mixing up your style with jeans or chinos will give you a couple of options this year and keep your winter look fresh.

G Star Jeans – Still Number One For Winter

Filed Under (Mens G Star Jeans, Premium Mens Jeans Brands) by DenimGeek on 30-09-2011

Tagged Under : , ,

G Star is possibly still by far the best premium Dutch denim brand around that will provide denim jeans, chinos and joggers for the mainstream fashion world, offering a little something for everyone at a variety of prices. Take the basic G Star 3301 straight leg jeans – nothing fancy, nothing groundbreaking but a good, quality, well made pair of jeans that will retail for around the £80 to £90 mark which will equate to a high priced pair of Luke 1977 or Firetrap jeans. Not everything G Star jeans do is priced this way, but they do offer an acceptable entry level for first timers of the brand, and then allow them to work upwards towards the slightly more expensive embroidered jeans, or the bestselling design of the time the tapered arc loose jeans.

The G Star Arc Loose jeans have been available from pretty much every single G Star retailer in the UK for the past couple of seasons and were reviewed the last time that i blogged about G Star and their fantastic jeans range – G Star Arc Jeans, The New Popular Style of Jeans Reviewed. Since then this summer most of the G Star jeans I have seen have been the tapered arc style, with a pair of espadrilles, flip flops or plimsolls and a basic t shirt. Even outside of the country, Brit holidaymakers and locals alike have been embracing the amazing G Star jeans styles, denims and washes and helping to make the brand one of the best selling around.

This winter is all about the leather or hiking boot with either jeans tucked into thick socks, or rolled up hems, so if you’re a fan of the arc, or have your eye on a pair then go ahead and get them, as they’ll still be in style well into next summer and will match up well with your Timberland or Lacoste boots, designer hiking boots or even a pair of trainers depending on where you’re going to be, and what you’re doing.

Carhartt Denim and Jeans – American Hardwearing Workwear

Filed Under (American Designer Jeans Brands) by DenimGeek on 23-09-2011

Tagged Under : ,

Carhartt is an American workwear brand that can boast a massive amount of history and heritage when it comes to producing hardwearing, tough workwear for the US population. Established in 1889 Carhartt is a family owned brand, that originally designer and made seasonal rugged clothing and have since branched out into fashion, and a few years ago hit the UK to be found alongside quite skater like brands. It has again had a slight move in the fashion world, and now firmly seen as an urban streetwear brand is producing some beautiful fashion pieces that will feature heavily in autumn winter 2011 and going forwards into 2012. Carhartt have produced many denims and jeans over the years, and this season have a small range of around half a dozen styles of jeans, and a few denim shirts, to really enforce the workwear angle, but also fit in perfectly with the current denim trends.

As Carhartt is aimed at a younger audience the prices aren’t too over the top, with the jeans hitting the shelves (or screens) at around the £60 mark, ensuring that there is both quality, and affordability in their range. T Shirts bearing the Carhartt branding are in the mid £20s while the shirts fit around the £65 to £75 mark so in all its a great priced brand, when you compare their prices to British brands such as Bench, Henleys, Gio Goi, Voi and Criminal Damage that don’t quite have the same history and heritage that Carhartt can boast. The best thing about Carhartt jeans are that they are no nonsense, straight leg jeans that carry the signature branding on the back pocket, a definite pair of jeans for the working man and the fashion conscious out there.

Luke 1977 Jeans – Black Country Overalls

Filed Under (British Mens Designer Jeans Brands) by DenimGeek on 07-09-2011

Tagged Under : ,

In recent years the Luke 1977 denim collection has been growing steadily, with more denim available now than there was a couple of years back. Alongside the Luke 1977 denims, or ‘Black Country Overalls’ as they have been touted there are also a superb range of chinos and cords in a variety of fits and colours ranging from stone beige through to grey and black cotton trousers. While cords and chinos may be the key trend of the year you can never have enough good pairs of jeans, with a wide selection of denims and washes now available. Doing a bit of research into the Luke 1977 denim brand and collection and i found the follow, which pretty much sums them up in a sentence or two.

All products are made from quality fabrics and are true to size. Whether your wanting a regular fit, slim sit, carrot fit, loose fit, straight leg or twisted seam we have it all. Our jeans comes in various washes or in a raw state, and certain styles are made from our finest Japanese selvedge denim. Taking inspiration from all the people that surround him, Luke’s menswear fashion range has all the components of the modern lad, a gentleman, a working class hero & a bit of a rogue.

Luke 1977 jeans used to be known as ‘Forever in Luke Jeans’ and were a much smaller range than they are now. There weren’t very many variations of fit and style, and each pair looked very similar, however now the brand can boast some brilliant cuts and washes, and really do offer affordable jeans for the younger menswear market. This rapid change seems to have come at a time when they were announced on the shortlist for ‘young menswear brand of the year’ which they subsequently won, beating off some serious competition. Winning the award has seen the brand appear on a bit of a British fashion titlewave, and now when you look around you see Luke 1977 everywhere, be it in physical clothing around town, on TV being endorsed by footballers, sportsmen, actors and even magicians like Dynamo. As well as endorsements there is plenty of advertising to be found with full page adverts in mens magazines, Luke 1977 stores popping up around the country, at festivals in association with Strongbow and even in the scooter form, with reports that custom made Luke 1977 scooters will be available for Christmas.

Luke 1977 jeans are available in straight, loose, slim, tapered and carrot fits with washes varying from light or pale blue, right through to dark indigo blue or even black denim. Rip repairs, chemical washing and whiskering is also available on selected styles, as are turn ups, cuff hems and even a pair of braces! The prices are also fairly reasonable with the basic styles starting at £80 and finishing off with the Japanese denim priced at £145 and many prices inbetween.

Replay Jeans Italy’s Finest

Filed Under (Italian Fashion Denim Brand, Mens Replay Jeans) by DenimGeek on 26-08-2011

Tagged Under :

Replay jeans have been a top Italian designer denim brand since its introduction in 1978. Originally reaching its peak in popularity in the 80s and 90s Replay is again back on the up in terms of popularity with their quality jeanswear now again appearing and being spoken in the same sentence as Diesel and G Star among a couple of other brands.

In the beginning Replay was a shirt brand that would manufacture fine tailored casual shirts and add the now iconic Replay logo somewhere on the garment. After a few successful years the ranges grew and before long they had tried their hand at denim. Realising they had a real talent for jeans a team was assembled and before long new factories were being built and sales were on a constant growth. The turning point came when they launched their double ring denim, pushing production for the season past the 1 million pairs of jeans mark and instantly making them a big player in the world of jeans within Italy. Expansion into Europe followed and soon the UK were snapping up pairs of Replay jeans, and the clothing range that had quickly accompanied it.

Now an International player with stand alone stores appearing around Europe, the UK, USA, Middle East and Asia Replay is swiftly reaching the heights that it had previously scaled and with the addition of more clothing, more denim styles and washes and a superb range of footwear have the ability to be one of the biggest denim brands in the world. For autumn winter the jeans are looking amazing with a variety of fits including loose, tapered and slim fit styles that are named the same year after year so look out for the Replay Anbass (slim) Waitom & Jennon (regular) Mickons (straight) and Billstrong (classic) styles as these are Replay best sellers year after year!

Replay jeans are looking like a top purchase this season, and their clothing range doesn’t look bad either with some beautiful looking winter coats, hooded jumpers, knitwear, t shirts and shirts all available with the signature Replay branding and quality.

Cuff Bottom Jeans – Easier Than Pins?

Filed Under (Bestselling Designer Jeans, Mens Designer Chinos) by DenimGeek on 19-08-2011

Tagged Under : , ,

I have seen a few pairs of cuff bottom jeans out and about recently, and personally can’t quite understand the attraction. I agree that they’re part of the fashion and mimick the tapered jeans but to me it just seems a little lazy. I mean, the best thing about the summer was the ability to get your jeans, roll up the hem a few times and then pin the excess at the back, giving a tapered ankle hugging design that was fully adjustable and kept in touch with the ‘turn up’ or rolled up jeans trend. The cuff bottom is simply a pair of jeans that got mixed up with a pair of jogging bottoms, so in essence are a young lads pair of jeans. This is possibly why i don’t seem to get it, while plenty of lads are wandering around in their cuff bottom tapered Humor, Gio Goi, Bench, Henleys and Luke 1977 jeans while the older population are pulling on their G Star, Edwin, Denham and Replay jeans and sorting their own individual style out.

The cuff bottom is a piece of ribbed elasticated cotton that is attached to the bottom of a pair of jeans instead of finishing off the hem. This gives the effect of tightly tapered jeans around the ankles, while the rest of the cut appear to be a standard pair of jeans, with a standard fit. Occasionally the jogging bottom influence also reaches the waistband where there is a sweatpant style elasticated waist with a drawstring and occasionally a button fastening. Apart from this they will appear as a regular looking pair of jeans. These are without a doubt for the younger generation, with the brands involved aimed at the late teens early twenties market and then from there upwards comes the traditional denim jeans and then the premium jeans. So i apologise if these are your favourite style at the moment, but in my opinion you’re much better investing in a pair of quality jeans or designer chinos, and wearing them how you want to wear them, opposed to wearing some ‘jogger jeans’. Verdict – buy some quality jeans and pin the ankles!
